Everyone at Shares and its parent company MSM Media is delighted to this week announce the list of nominations for the UK Stock Market Awards 2014, in association with KPMG.
After six weeks of fast and furious voting, your views have been collated and aggregated to provide the list of five nominees for each of the 23 categories. At the end of February, a vastly experienced panel of equity market participants and commentators will then assess the merits of every contender and select the recipients of the coveted trophies. Following the panel's deliberations, the Awards Dinner itself will take place at the Sheraton Park Lane Hotel in London's Piccadilly and the ceremony will be commemorated with a special supplement to be published in Shares in April.
This prestigious event, the fourth one of its kind, will be supported by all of the publications and financial information service providers which comprise the MSM Media Group, including not just Shares and its sister website www.moneyam.com but also www.stockmarketwire.com, www.directorsholdings.com, www.brokerforecasts.com and our newest offering www.diyinvestor.co.uk.
The awards will celebrate all that is great about publicly-listed British firms, the equity market within which they choose to operate and their enormous contribution to the United Kingdom's economy. They will also answer the biggest question of all - who is truly creating shareholder value? The winners in each Super Sector category, and also those sections which highlight individual executive and deal-making talent, will be judged on how they measure up against the growth, risk and quality matrix Shares now uses as the bedrock of its analytical approach, with the help of one of the panel judges, Michael Cahill. These three factors will be used to assess the efficacy of a company's strategy and the total shareholder return it generated in calendar 2013.
I would like to thank all of our sponsors for their generous support of this event and look forward to firstly chairing the panel lunch in late February and then attending the ceremony in March.

Russ took the role of lead analyst on several initial public offerings, was voted the best in his field by the Institutional Investor survey and reached the level of Managing Director in 2003, becoming head of UBS' global semiconductor research effort. He joined Shares in 2005 as technology correspondent and was appointed editor in July 2008.
